So, the search began. I knew right away I didn't want a traditional glider. The look just isn't for me.

and although husband is in desperate need of a new recliner, we could possibly get one for the living room but it would be way too big for the nursery:

That pretty much eliminates anything that our local stores carry so I started stalking my favorite inspiration site, Pinterest. (If you don't follow me already, I don't know why not.) By simply plugging in the search term "nursery," a plethora of beautifully decorated rooms popped up and several of them had the exact chair I was picturing in my mind!
I didn't realize that the particular chair I was looking for was so popular. So, off I went clicking the pictures and trying to find where to buy this chair.
Well, that's easier said than done. A lot of the pictures led to no where and others simply ended on decor blog posts with no sources to any of the furniture. I was starting to get discouraged, especially when I FINALLY came across a beautiful swivel rocker at Pottery Barn Kids.

I thought I'd found a clear winner... until I saw the price tag. This beauty comes in at a hefty $849.00. UGH. And that's the sale price! Call me cheap but I'm not about to spend that kind of cash on a chair that has a good coating of spit-up in it's future.
So, I kept searching. I was on a mission to find a reasonably priced chair that 1) won't break my back and 2) won't break the bank Finally, I spotted a reasonably priced duplicate of the chair I envisioned on Ikea. The only problem is that it's a standard chair. No swiveling or rocking.

But at $199, I could easily convert it into a swivel rocker like these folks did using a simple rocker base.

It sounds easy enough to accomplish but I'm still undecided. Do I jump in and just get the cheap Ikea chair not knowing how comfy it may or may not be? Help me blogging pals! We don't have an Ikea near me. Do you have this chair? Do you own Ikea furniture? Is this the longest post you've ever read about a freaking chair?

Nice plan! Very nice choice, love the modern look. :)
Hey- I'm new to following your blog and a new mom myself! I loves the same one @ pottery barn but held back due to price. Ikea costs a lot to ship so you might be paying quite a bit even though the chair is cheaper. I did stumble upon this one (it is the one we currently have in our nursery and love it!) Take a look! Found it @ babies r us.

If the link didn't work, look for "Silhouette Curve Arm Recliner- Napa Sand textured fabric for $579.99
We love it- and I'm pretty sure there are some rewards coming up for any nursery purchases that might make it worth your while.
Good luck shopping!
How about I love Ikea chairs. I think you should just drive here and we can go Ikea shopping together.
Fnny, I just saw this on another pregnancy blog, and pinned it to my board. This sounds like it could be right up your alley - recliner and glider in one!

Good luck in your hunt! I've heard mixed reviews about IKEA sofas and chairs, so I think I would definitely want to sit in it before buying it. Although I wonder if you might be able to find the more expensive Pottery Barn one locally, maybe on Craigslist?
Good luck!
Some of my most cherished moments & memories with Noah as a baby are in his glider rocking him to sleep at night. I got a glider from a used Mommy store (moms goodwill basically) for $40 & my Mom & I picked out fabric to recover it to a tan/brown color. Looked brand new can't go wrong at $40. Try Craigslist too you can always find deals on there.
As soon as I saw the photos I immediately thought "Ikea" In my experience, Ikea furniture is really hard and uncomfortable.
I've sat in this IKEA style chair, and I think it's pretty comfy, but I think it depends on the type of chairs you like. I think it's comfy, but you might not!
I mainly wanted to ask if you were planning on having it shipped to you if you don't have an IKEA near you? Because the shipping will probably cost around $350, AKA $150 MORE than the damn chair. Their shipping is SUCH a rip off, but they do that for a reason. They want you to come into the store and spend more money. I'm pretty sure I've seen some similar chairs to this style at Walmart and they rock/glide. Maybe you can keep looking?
I wish I could help, but the closest Ikea to me is 500 miles.
Hey girl! Sorry I've been MIA for so long! It has been crazy busy around here! I don't have much input for ya because we don't have an Ikea anywhere near us either but it's super cute! :)
You should probably drive to the Ikea in Atlanta to pick up that chair. I've heard ours is best. No really, even better than the ones in Sweden. ;)
i've seen this glider/rocker issue before--seems like it's really difficult to find a cute one for a decent price. why can't we have it all? isn't that what we deserve?
I love that Ikea chair! So cute!!
I don't know the IKEA chair specifically, but I have sat in other IKEA chairs, and they're not the most comfortable thing in the world. This chair could be different though! :( Sorry! I know that's not helpful!
My experience with Ikea is that you definitely get what you pay for...so even though the chair may be cheaper, that probably means the material isn't that great and the cushioning will not last for long. We love Ikea's dressers, nightstands, etc, but I probably would not buy a couch or chair from them. The last time I went to Babies R Us they had a few chairs similar to the style you are looking for, but not sure if they're in white :(
I just wanted to say that Walmart surprisingly has some really great rockers that are really similar to what you're looking for. And, also affordable. Here's a couple, but there are lots more http://www.walmart.com/ip/Enchanted-Camelot-Glider-Plush-Taupe/10902347

Do you think a chair at all will fit in the nursery? We do use our glider almost every day. Romeo reads Quorra her bedtime book in it and it has worked with soothing her when nothing else would. I definitely love the look of it and think it goes perfect with your theme.
I know what kind of chair you need a swivel swivel SWIVEL chair.... Baby T will fall asleep to the soothing feeling of going in circles

Try the following website Jess it has a ton of modern looking rocking chairs in all different price ranges and styles. I do have an IKEA about an hour away from me but no telling when I may get that way so I can't say I'll be able to sit in it and tell ya. Hope the link helps!!!
I have a glider that was part of my crib bundle. It gets the job done.
I totally agree about the traditional gliders, they are just not my style. I actually was eyeing that chair for our living room a while back, and I can tell you it's super comfy, especially with a lumbar pillow.
I too have been on the hunt for a decent glider, and found one at babies r us that I like (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11973540) but it's like $400.... So I'll be interested to see if you do turn the Ikea chair into a swivel glider, because if it works out well for you, I think I'll totally try it out too and save a few hundred bucks :)
That is a CRAZY price for a chair! Good luck finding one you love!
Ok - I'm a huge IKEA fan - but honestly their furniture is me very comfortable. I would buy desks/bookshelves/dressers from there - but not a chair from the nursery. Especially if it's something you want to last. Just my suggestion! Can't wait to see what you decide on.
I love Ikea for the small stuff but I've never found their furniture to be very comfortable. It's kind of a "you get what you pay for" kinda thing.
Oooh that chair is awesome! Is it weird I want a rocker but don't have plans for a child in the near future?
Do they have a black one of those bad boys?
Oh my gosh you are clever! I had the exact same problem when I was decorating my baby room. I never would have though to do that! Next one, maybe! :)

Hey, that's the kind of chair I want in a future nursery! (Yes, I'm already mentally and pinterest planning a nursery even though I'm not pregnant. Totally normal.)
I think you should get the Ikea chair and DIY it! I have an Ikea couch that looks exactly like the chair you posted, except, you know, a couch and it's super comfy. :] Go for it!
you're a genius!! First of all I love that you hunted down the chair despite all the dead links in pinterest (somewhat frustrating part of the site, not gonna lie)
We have a *ton* of ikea furniture (and a ton of pottery barn too to be honest) I would say go with the ikea chair all the way! Try to get to a store (they're a fun adventure regardless) just to try it out/make sure it's comfy but don't let a PB brand name sway you if you can put together the chair of your dreams for 1/2 the budget!
The chair from Ikea looks comfy! Love the Scrabble letters used to spell out the name!
