A few weeks ago, my friend Kristin decided that since her sweet hubby had to work on their anniversary, that we should take her out on the town. Three or four years ago, this would have meant a late dinner and some dancing but nowadays, us 'real housewives of Harrisonburg' (as we've so awesomely coined ourselves) like to do things a little differently, as in, an early Saturday lunch followed by some hand painting pottery. I know, we're wild and crazy. You don't see Gretchen Rossi living it up like this, she could learn a few things from us.
First things first, we needed to pick out something for us each to paint, which was the hardest part of the process for me. I could make a plate or a bowl or hell, a set of bowls! The possibilities were endless.
Kristin and Angela trying to decide on their pieces
After about twenty minutes of searching, I settled for this over-sized coffee mug. Or is it a bowl with a handle? Whatev. We're ready to paint bishes.
My sister, Heather, and her bff are ready to rock and roll.
Angela gettin fancy with her flowers.
Arts and crafts time! (Ironic: I'm wearing this exact outfit right now.)
If you know me at all, you won't be surprised to find out that I picked a beach scene for my cup, err bowl. Kristin found a beach design in one of the idea books we were leafing through so I snatched it up and tried to recreate it. I did my best. (Dane Cook anyone? No?)
Take a closer look and you'll find my little crustacean friend, Crabby Patty.
And like every true artist, I had to make sure to sign my work so I slapped my initials on the bottom. Also, this is another reason why Jonathan Taylor Thomas and I are soul mates.
I share two-thirds of his initials. Call me JTT.
I share two-thirds of his initials. Call me JTT.
At the last minute, I decided four hours of painting a mug wasn't enough so I whipped up this beauty. What do you think of my blue pineapple trivet? I hope Kevin likes it because I'm pretty sure I'm going to redesign my kitchen around it.
Have you ever painted your own pottery? Loved it as much as I did?

Wow that looks like fun! I've never done that!
So I know what we're doing during BLExplosion2011! Your mug is caaayoot! I love crabby patty.
I think you did great! I haven't painted my own pottery since I was a kid...but I'd love that trivet! And the mug. Because that would just about hold the amount of coffee I drink in a day. :D
How fun! You did awesome!
That looks so good! I couldn't paint like that to save my life!
Wish we had something creative around here like painting pottery!

Those look really awesome! I especially love the mug, but I'm a weirdo about coffee mugs. I love pottery related stuff, I took a clay art class in high school.
So fun! I love paint your own pottery so much that my bridesmaids included in my bachelorette party festivities :)
oh my gosh those are so cute!
Love your pieces! They both look so great!!
This is totally something my girlfriends and I would do. It's funny how our idea of "fun" changes as we get older. ;)
I haven't done that in forever! Haha, I think I want to take husband to go do it for a date night. I'm not sure if he likes painting pottery, but it could be fun!
Oh JTT!! You're so funny :)
So fun!! I feel just like you, I am in no way wild and crazy, but I love doing crafty things like this, its the perfect way to spend time with friends.
LOVE LOVE this , you did really well girl! Love the design you picked out too hehe :)
adorable! i've been needing a new coffee mug for work, maybe i'll follow in your tracks and make it all special. and holy moly, that's a big coffee mug.
I need to get out more! We don't have anything like this where I live. I'm so deprived!
What a cute post, I may need to try my hand at painting pottery. I'm sure they seal it right?
That's it I'm headed to VA so we can chill, drink a bottle of wine in the parking lot then walk in for some fun pottery painting ;+)
i love arts and crafts...i have never done the colour me world thing before...that's too cute!
I'm jealous of your paint skills. If I were to paint pottery {how fun!} mine would be "abstract". ;]
I really love the pineapple and totally support you redesigning your kitchen around it.
I love doing that stuff! I just made a HUGE mug too!! It is so fun! ;-) And I love your trivet! Awesome job!
This was super fun... I can't wait to go again
How pretty!! You did good!! I wanted to take my son. I think I might. =)
I've never been to one of those pottery painting places, but they look like so much fun! My sister and mother used to sometimes go to a place in my hometown (in NH), but I was already in college, and somehow just never went!
You did waaaaaay beter than I could ever do! Cute!
I LOVE these kind of places! I adore that pineapple and the little crab is too cute!!! What a fun colorful addition to your dishware.
Yes, I love painting pottery, although I haven't done it in a LONG time! I need to take McKayla!
You did a GREAT job. I usually picked things where I didn't have to paint scenery because... well I can't! ha!
You did a great job - that little crab is adorable! :) Hubs and I painted pottery for my birthday one year. We did a doggie treat jar together, and I think we did a decent job, although parts of it definitely look like a child was painting! These places are so much fun!
Can you come make me some pretty pottery? K, thanks!
Was this at a Color Me Mine kind of place? I want to go SO bad!! And yes, I totes love your pineapple thingy (not sophisticated enough to know what a trivet is). Damn skippy you're a regular Picasso ;)
This is so funny, this is the kind of place I was talking about, just with body products!!! I've never been to one of these, but want to do it so badly!!
Wow! I think I'm going to commission you to make some birthday presents for me ;)
