Our Mini-Moon to Charleston, SC

Kevin and I left early Friday morning for Charleston, South Carolina. We hit the road around 5:00 a.m., a time I rarely see but for my husband, would actually be considered sleeping in. Our ETA was around 2:00 and we hit it pretty much on the dot after stopping three times. Once to eat and twice because I have a bladder the size of a peanut. We spent Friday evening relaxing in our hotel room and enjoying a few complimentary cocktails (thank you Embassy Suites) then crashed around 8:00 that evening like the boring old couple we are.

Saturday we woke up bright and early ready to discover Charleston. Our first stop was a one hour horse drawn carriage tour that took us all over town.

After we finished the tour, we couldn't get enough so we set out on foot. Kevin and I spent all afternoon Saturday getting lost and discovering museums, mansions, churches and gardens. It. Was. Awesome.

By the time we walked the four square miles that make up historic Charleston, we were ready for a break. We headed back to our hotel to rest up for our last day. Sunday morning, we decided to tour Magnolia Plantation, and it didn't disappoint. A stunning home sitting on 500 acres surrounded by lush gardens? I'll take one, thanks.

Before we knew it, it was our last evening in town. We decided to have a nice dinner out and settled on 82 Queen, a restaurant nestled behind a narrow alley that opened up into a quaint courtyard.

We had to try the BBQ shrimp and grits. Delicious. I'm not normally a grits fan but these were perfect.

My roasted pork loin on a sweet potato and brandy puree with collard green ravioli. If you've never had collard green ravioli, I suggest you try them. Oh my gawd, so good.

Kevin decided on the Frogmore Stew. A combination of roasted potatoes, corn, sausage and shrimp. A little spicy for me but he enjoyed it.

We were sad to leave the sunny, breezy, 75 degree weather but I think we both were happy to get home. If you ever get a chance to visit Charleston, do. I just don't recommend going on the busiest weekend of the year like we did. Do your research and if there's a 10K happening with 40,000 participants, think about picking another weekend otherwise everyone will ask you "are you running the bridge?" No friend. I'm on vacation. Minimal exercise required.

GORGEOUS pictures! Sounds like an amazing time (though in my experience, it's hard to NOT have an amazing time in Charleston)

It's funny to hear a southerner say that she isn't big on grits! I'm not originally from the south or anything, but even most transplants I know love grits and I just don't get it. yuck.
