I'm very excited because by the time you read this, I'll be on the road headed south. Kevin and I finally planned our mini-moon! Since we ended up having a destination wedding, we spent a few days at the beach with our family last year but never really went on an actual honeymoon. In fact, we've never been on a trip alone other than the occasional overnight at his hunting cabin. Yeah, it's not the most sought after honeymoon location.
When we were trying to decide where to go, we knew it had to be within driving distance since it's really just a long weekend trip. We crossed out the obvious and the places we're planning to visit this summer like Myrtle Beach, Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks. As much as I love those places, I really wanted to go somewhere we haven't been before. We considered Atlantic City, the Poconos and of course, Dollywood. (What? You can't leave Dolly Parton off your honeymoon list, who do you think I am?) But in the end, we chose Charleston, South Carolina!
Palm trees? Check. Horse drawn carriages? Check. Beautiful and historic homes? Check.
So, my friends, pardon my absence from blogging and twitter for the next few days. I suppose I should "virtually" check out and spend some time with my husband. Speaking of spending time with him, that probably means I should bring pants other than the sweat variety huh? Dang. Also, any recommendations of things to see or places to eat are appreciated!
Of course, since it is Friday, I actually have a vlog for you this week! In honor of April Fools Day, I give to you, the best (hear: lamest) prank I've ever pulled.

My aunt lived there many years ago when I was younger and my brother and I visited every summer. There was a restaurant we fell in love with. I don't know if it still exists, but if it does, check out Wild Wing Cafe. Amazing!
i can't believe you're taking a honeymoon with my husband. also, totally weird, but we were planning on going to charleston a couple of weeks ago until the london trip happened. can't watch the video at work, but happy april fool's! have a wonderful time!
Ok, I just looked and it's still there! They have over 30 different wing flavors and I'm not even kidding...this place is sooooo nom nom nommy!

I would tell you places (b/c I've actually been there) but I was 11 the last time I was there... so yeah I'm not sure I could tell you much more than I was at a beach house on some beach and we went to a Piggly Wiggly which was the first time I'd ever been to one or seen one :)

Okay, I REALLY hope you get this comment in time because I have TONS of Charleston suggestions...I love that city!
First and foremost, do a pub tour (or martini tour, whichever strikes your fancy) with the Lesesne Tour Company ( pubtourcharleston.com ). I seriously can't recommend them enough and if you go and they asked who referred you, tell them Tara and that you read my reviews on my travel blog. Not because I'll get anything from it (I swear) but because I know the people who run it :)
If you have a minute check out my travel blog posts on Charleston, too. No, this isn't a plug, I promise, I just think that you may glean some info/suggestions from them :)

Restaurant suggestions: La Fourchette and Mercato are my top two. Magnolia's and Poogan's Porch are good too. Hyman's Seafood is overrated, trust me on that.

You're going to love it, though. If you're on King St you can even sneak and in-person peek at Claire's wedding venue! It's the William Aiken House. It's yellow. Like 2 or 3 blocks from Marion Square. Can't miss it. Have the most amazing time on your mini-moon!!!
