Weekend Fun?

It's funny when your single how the definition of "weekend fun" differs from when you get married. Even when I was engaged, living with roommates, we had the best time on the weekend.  A couple bottles of wine, a Say Yes to the Dress marathon or Twilight, and it's a party. Now, my weekends consist of trips to Home Depot and a fancy dinner out no longer appeals to me.

I am perfectly content cooking. In fact, that's where I thrive. I'm happy just being with my husband even if that means a trip to the hardware store. I think the reason behind it is, I know he'd do the same for me. Case in point... last year, I dragged him to the Metropolitan Cooking and Entertaining Show in Washington DC.

This wouldn't be so bad except he works in DC, commutes 2.5 hours a day. EACH DAY!! So I know he was not excited to make that trip on a day he didn't have to. Luckily, he may get to go again this November. I know he's excited.

But in a relationship, it's give and take. If that means that I have to go to a hunting show in bum f*ck egypt on a Saturday night **sighs** I will. Hopefully, that won't happen too often.  :D

Dancin Nekked

That's what I was doing when my husband came home today. I tend to do it alot, and I'm not gonna lie, I love it. My old roommates thought I was either crazy, disgusting, un-cooth (how do you spell COOTH? Cuth? CUTHE? Wtf it's probably not a real word...) or just ridiculous. Well, I am all of the above.

Since I feel like I skipped a few introductions, let me tell you a little about me. I married a man almost twice my age and love him to pieces. He takes care of me, we support each other, adore each other and I'm excited to spend every day of forever with him. I have a west highland white terrier named Bodie, after the Bodie Island Lighthouse in Buxton NC, and 9 times out of 10, I cuddle with him instead of my husband.

I hog the remote and usually leave it on the Food Netword -- Primarily Paula Deen, Who've I've MET!!!

And I love being lazy. My husbands favorite thing to do to relax is yardwork. Yeaaahhhh... good luck with that. I'll stay inside and watch the Dirty Jobs marathon. Which, fun fact (THAT'S A LITTLE FF FOR YA, Dane Cook anyone? No? Oh well...) is the only show we tend to agree on. That and The Deadliest Catch. OOh! Reminds me, I got my shirt today, check it out:

Now me and Mike Rowe are twins. Oh, and this would be you ignoring that disgusting mess behind me. We use the spare bedroom as my closet right now. Where my 3020 roommates at? This is what my closet always looked like.

VA Beach Mini Vacay

When the idea was first discussed to have a ladies weekend away to the beach, I was all for it. My sister and I threw around some ideas, talked to a few girls, and started emailing back and forth. Weeks later, we still hadn't formed a concrete plan but one of the girls picked a date, booked a room, and said "LET'S DO IT" -- it was all the motivation I needed!

Well, that's where the story get's a little hairy... you see, it went from 3 or so girls to 6 which -- when you do the math -- (6 girls + 1 hotel room) -- could equal disaster. I'm here to tell you we all survived and I think I can speak for all of us that we had an fantabulous weekend!!!!
Friday morning, we left the Blueridge Mountains behind us and headed east. We weren't two minutes in the hotel room before we all changed and hit the beach. It was so relaxing!
I for one, am a huge beach lover. My husband and I have vacationed at the beach 3+ times a year since we started dating and I like to think that it's where we fell in love. I could sit and just watch the water for hours and hours. How is that possible? That one can sit and listen to waves crashing and feel the sand under their toes and be completely content? That's one of the reasons he and I decided to get married there. Were so at peace there. Corny, but true. Why not pick the most amazing place to signify the most amazing moment of your life? Duh moment for me...

Sorry, I got to rambling. Haha! Now, back to the story... we braved the 110 degree heat index the next day, Saturday, armed with 6 beach chairs, 2 umbrellas, countless towels, and a cooler. Mmm nothin like an ice cold Bud Light Lime when your practically melting into the metal of your lounge chair.
Oddly enough, the heat didn't seem to bother a single one of us until we started feeling hunger pains around 4. After heading inside to clean up, we walked literally across the street to a little restaurant that had just opened, The 11th Street Tap House. IT WAS DELICIOUS. That statement deserves all caps. We all wished we had discovered it the night before because we ate at some shotty italian place where they thought that alfredo sauce was watered down ricotta cheese. Gross.

We ordered a round of 24 ouncers and the fun began...

Introductions? From left to right above, the pastors wife Jackie, super sweet and a great sense of humor. Megan, quiet until you get to know her, then she's a hoot. And Kristin, the most hilarious person and has a great heart.

My sister Heather, who I love and have become best friends with over the past few years... our middle school days were, well, different. Then in the middle there, that's my closest friend and BFF Katie. We've known each other for 10 years now and for some reason we still put up with each other. There's me on the end, and I'm not so sure why I'm not smiling because we were having the time of our lives. Including beer tasting which was awesom. Four different tastes of whatever you like for $5. I wasn't a fan of the banana beer, but the apple cider beer was a winner.

And the food was ABSOLUTELY to die for. It was prepared in such ways that were so unexpected but delicious.

Look at the adorable silverware. I mean come on, you can't help but love that. This placed screamed vacation.

That night, we took to the shops, splurged on ice cream and ended up back in the room about 11 because the humidity was around 902388%. Yuck.

After I got married, I didn't think I would have the same fun I had as a single girl but I got proven wrong big time. Four out of the six of us were married and we talked like teenagers, made dirty jokes, ate delicious food and enjoyed each others company. I can't wait to do it all again soon.

I'm a Blog Virgin

Hi. My name is Jessica and I'm a blog virgin.

Was that a corny enough intro for you? I recently discovered these interesting diary-type websites while perusing the magical-ness of Google. While searching for dresses, color schemes and cake inspirations I stumbled upon a whole universe of wedding blogging. At first, I was skeptical. I mean, who would care that it took me two months and five hundred tossed templates to create my save-the-dates? YOU WOULD. The world. The wedding world. The female world. The anyone-who-will-listen world.

So, here I am. Not sure what to say yet, but I'm sure it will come to me. I guess to start, this is my life blog. I'm a little late to do wedding blogging but don't fret, I'll fill ya in on some juicy details and morsels of pro photo goodness like THIS:

See that gorgeous man? See that pretty lady in a white dress? Yup. That's us. Happy as larks. So in the moment. SO UNAWARE. Unaware of the life that stands before us. A life full of home repair, budgets, grocery shopping, and basically, REALITY.

In the end, I'll probably touch on a little of each of these subjects. Our married life, our financial woes, my love for cooking, his love for hunting and everything in between. So for now, good night. He's been in bed for an hour. Some newlyweds we are huh?
