I Can Tell You Secrets, Right?

This afternoon, I was reading Weddingbee and came across Mrs. Barette's "Lessons on Lashes" and it got me to thinking about my own facial hair situation.

So, now I think it's time we take our relationship to the next level. I think of you, my readers, as friends. You know things about me that other people don't and of course, some people know things that you don't. And it's time to come clean. I want to let you in on one of my deepest darkest secrets and my friends and family can tell you all about it. (Since I know some of them are reading)

Ready? I trust you. And I love you, soooo....

I. Have. No. Eyebrows.

You heard me right. I have no eyebrows. Okay, I have a few and I've actually talked about it before, on the Weddingbee boards, and found out that there is a name for it: trichotillomania. It means the self-pulling of hair.Yeah, I totally have trichotillomania. It quite possibly makes me sound like a nut job but whatev's. It's reality.

Anytime that I'm nervous or scared, I find myself pulling at my eyebrows unconsciously. (Another reason I don't watch Saw.) In the past several years, I've become more aware of this action and can stop myself but when I was a kid, I guess it was more of a nervous habit. Kind of like biting your nails or chewing your lip.

I guess you think I'm crazy now huh?

Well, let's get in a little deeper. (That's what she said)

Now that you know... here's a picture.

Me, truly SANS makeup.

See? There are...um...a few. This was taken 6 months ago, before my wedding, and for the Weddingbee board post. Ever since then, I've used countless serums and creams and such but nothing really seems to work. I have to say, I am intrigued by Latisse, I wonder if it would work on eyebrows?

Well, until I find an eyebrow-regenerating-miracle, I'll have to stick to filling in my pathetic excuse for brows.

Enter: Bare Minerals.

 {source}

I was introduced to Bare Minerals by my best friend and I will swear by it until the day I die. Which will probably be by lightning, or by a shark bite. Actually...in my dream last night, it was a tornado... but I'm off subject.

Their brow powder is AMAZING and fills in perfectly. I've found that a pencil just looks very blunt but the powder is just smooth enough and blends perfectly. Other powders I've tried seem to not last very long but I wore Bare Minerals brow powder during my wedding and it stayed tried and true.

(The color I use is the dark blond/ medium and I use a small angle brush.)

After ten years of painting these suckers on, I've got it down to a science.

So there ya have it. My deep dark secret. Well, one of them anyway.
What are you hiding?

Filling in my eyebrows was hands-down the BEST beauty-related decision I've ever made. I have a full set of brows, but they are the UGLIEST color and filling them in just makes everything in life better. You clearly do an awesome job with yours. I wouldn't have ever known if you didn't point it out. Yay eyebrows!!

You're so brave to talk about this. I'm not, so I'm going as anon, even though you know me (sort of). I deal with something similar - dermatillomania.I can't really hide it with makeup, so I just have to do it in areas that can be covered with clothes. It sucks, and I hate it but I can't help it. :(

I had a friend that had the same thing - only with her hair, so she always had a bald spot on the side of her head. Once she told me, I got into the habit of pointing it out to her every time she did it, and it always made her stop! I personally have the opposite problem with my eyebrows...I'd gladly give you a few!

You do such an amazing job of filling in your brows I would have never guessed! But I've actually heard that nervously pulling out hair is a lot more common than people think. The show on after Glee, Raising Hope, even showed the main character pulling out his hair unconsciously and eating it a few weeks ago. So you're not alone!

Me, I hardly pluck my eyebrows at all, since I don't look good with really thin ones, but boy, my sister needs to. When she was about 12 I had to hold her down and pluck those suckers for about a half hour to get her to not look like a caveman!

You aren't alone! I pull hair A LOT. not from my head. I do it to my hands. the hair that grows on your knuckles and the upper part of my hand before it goes to the wrist. Shaving just doesn't get it close enough, so I pull it. I also "pull" my eyebrows with my own nails too...but not to the point of me not having any...SO i do fee ya!

I have TOO MUCH eyebrow... you want some of mine? My deep dark secret is that I usually have to pluck my eyebrows every day to keep them from looking like woolly caterpillars. I first had them waxed off in 8th grade and have been trying to manage them ever since. Thanks dad for giving me your eyebrow (singular). Yours look wonderful BTW, would have never known!

I had no clue about your eyebrows! I have naturally very little eyebrows so I am now completely sold on bare minerals!

You do a great job filling them in! My mom just didn't have eyebrows (lucky!) and she filled hers in with a pencil and it always looked bad, but, she was so sure they looked awesome. Ha! Aren't moms funny?

I love you even more for feeling comfy enough to post the picture! I had a friend who had what you have (and honestly the word is way to long to type), and she had a really hard time with it. She eventually "cured" herself. Good luck!! :)

Kudos to you for sharing your secret! I generally fill in my brows because they're lighter than my hair color and I'm just not a fan at all.

Oooh I'm soooooo telling. I don't know who but someone :+) lol I totally have bare spots in my brows as well and use a power with angle brush as well (great minds think alike) you are not alone sister.

As you already see from previous comments, you are not alone. I think everyone has nervous habits, I pull at the skin on my upper lip, have for years, don't know why. Also as a comforting gesture, I rub soft cloth between my thumb and middle finger of my right hand. I have since I was a toddler. It relaxes me.
Thank goodness for cosmetics. Although I have eyebrows, managing them is always an ordeal. Waxing and threading works best for me, and I fill in and smooth things out with clear mascara and benefit brow essentials. The powder is a little bit waxy so it gives a smoother look than a pencil would, as you posted. You look great btw!

Good for you! Bare it all! They look amazing, never would have know! Professional! :)

I never noticed - you do an amazing job filling them in!

I used to do the same thing in high school, and up until a few years ago I was in the same boat of literally having no more than pencil thin lines of hair on my brows. After a lot of work (it is a hard habit to break!) I now have semi-real looking brows, though they are still thin by natural standards.

Kudos for being so brave to admit a nervous tick publicly. And fyi I never ever would have even guessed that you filled them in, that is how good of a job you do.

Wanna do mine? :P

You really are so brave to write about this, and I think it's great as I am sure others can absolutely relate!

You are so brave to write this, thank you! I can relate, as one of my dearest friends does this with her eyelashes. You do an amazing job filling them in and you look GOREGOUS!

I had a friend in high school that pulled out her hair while she slept.. you aren't that big of a nut job, and wow, you do a fantastic job of filling them in! They look better than my real eyebrows!

I have heard such great things about bare minerals make-up lately, I need to try it out!

I went to HS with a guy who did the same thing with his eyebrows. He'd sortof twist them in his fingers & pull them out.

My confession: I have a nervous tick - I blink. When I'm under a lot of stress, I squeeze my eyes really hard. It's weird. I look like a freak & it's not something I can cover up with makeup.

A friend of mine has been using Bare Minerals for years and swears by them too.

*whoops, "tic" not tick

You're not a nut job at all! We all have our things, ya know? :)

I powder in my brows too, only because they are SO light. If I don't, it looks like I don't have any... which is kinda weird.

Your eyebrows look amazing, I never would have known! And, no one thinks you're crazy at all! I know there are a lot of people who suffer from this too. Let me know if you try latisse!

I am glad to know about this product! Because I, too, have some of the worst excuses for eyebrows on the planet. I will definitely have to try this!
